Celebrating First Holy Communion 2022

Information Evening

Fr Sam Lynch welcomes all parents of first Holy Communion candidates for 2022 to attend a parent information session and Mass. It will be held Sunday 18 September in St Michael's Church at 5pm and followed by Mass at 6pm. As the program requirements have changed this year we advise all parents to attend.

Please note the children of St Michael's Parish celebrate their first Holy Communion in year 3 or above. They are required to have been baptised in the Catholic faith and to have received their First Reconciliation. If your child is baptised Catholic but is yet to receive their First Reconciliation please enroll them in our First Reconciliation program that runs in Term 3 and attend the First Reconciliation Parent information session to be held on Sunday 24 July. Program details are found under the First Reconciliation heading on the Sacrament menu.

First Communion Mass Dates

We are pleased to celebrate First Holy Communion over two Masses in 2022. Mass dates are Sunday 6th November or Sunday 13 November at 11.30am.  Mass dates are subject to availability and any prevailing government restrictions for COVID safety requirements.

Presentation Masses

Candidates will attend Mass after their sacrament lessons on Saturday or Sunday evenings, where the will be presented to the parish community.

Lesson Preparation

Candidates from St Michael's Primary in year 3 will prepare for their first Communion during class lesson time.

All candidates from state and independent schools and St Michael's students in year 4 and above are required to attend 3 x 50 minute lessons followed by Mass at 6pm. The sacrament program is taught by Mrs Lolina Aljasin our Sacramental Teacher. Lessons will be held in the church hall and full attendance is required for lessons and Mass. Lesson 1 commences on 15 or 16 October at 5pm. You will be asked to indicate your lesson and Mass choice on the online booking sheet.

Mass Rehearsals

Mass rehearsals will take place for all candidates on Wednesday 2 November 2022. First Communion Mass 1 bookings attend Mass 1 rehearsal at 4.00pm and First Communion Mass 2 attend their rehearsal at 5.30pm. Candidates must attend the rehearsal time that corresponds to their first Communion Mass selection. Please take this into consideration when booking your child's First Communion Mass date as rehearsal attendance is mandatory. All state and independent school candidates will make their reconciliation between 5.00-5.30pm on the rehearsal afternoon.

Enrolments

Children who received their First Reconciliation at St Michael's in 2021 are automatically enrolled for their First Communion sacrament in 2022. They are not required to enrol again.
